Reading Your Own Blog

February 18, 2024

Reading your own blog is a painful experience.

I am not a professional writer. The writing on this blog is pretty low quality

On reflection some of my thoughts are just plain wrong or foolish. Looking back at some of my posts I’m compelled to wonder why I though writing them was a good idea. They can also be pretty cringe-y. As people our thoughts on topics and situations evolve. But your blog entries do not. They’re little snapshots of the person you were (or wanted to project that you were) when you wrote the post. When reading your own posts you will find yourself rather shallow and short sited. You will badly want to edit or delete posts.

So of the problem is lack of writing skill. When I read the posts I think they fall short because my skill to express myself as a writer is limited. Is it better to say nothing at all or say something rather poorly? I’m not sure. But I soldier on none-the-less.

What I find difficult of this blog is that its a semi-public artifact of my life. Unless you know exactly what to look for you will not likely find and read my blog. I’ve registered it with a few search engines but there is nothing linking back to it so the page rank doesn’t exist. So no one likely reads this blog but me. But the blog is public so I can’t really share my more personal thoughts. It would be too exposing and embarrassing to me to share that detail. Still I want a public record fo my personal thoughts in text format. This is a strange contrast and it makes it awkward to write things on the blog.

I still do like to skim the old posts on my blog though. Its interesting to see what I was thinking. Sometimes you find a old post and you’re really surprised at your own depth. So there are a few diamonds in the rough, so all is not lost.

I guess I’ll just keep writing here, and sometimes reading.
